William Isaac Wortman, 97, of Landrum, SC went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 18, 2025.
Bill was born in Beecher City, IL, December 7, 1927, to Rev. Henry and Mary Wortman. After growing up in a number of small Illinois towns, Bill graduated from Cerro Gordo High School in 1946 and enlisted in the US Army to serve with the US Signal Corp in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. He went on to attend Taylor University (IN). In 1954 he attended the biblical Seminary in New York where he met and married Mary Douglass in 1955. Following a few years of working in commercial radio broadcasting (WVLN, WBYS), Bill and Mary joined the Latin America Mission for 17 years. Eight of these years were in Costa Rica. This was followed by 15 years on the pastoral staff of Pascack Bible Church, Hillsdale, NJ. His "Life verse" was Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled."
Bill was predeceased by his wife Mary. They were married 68 years. Bill is survived by his children: Paul Wortman (Rebecca), Martha Browne (Scott) and Sarah Gannon; his grandchildren Zack Wortman (Jody), Curtis Browne (Andrea) and great grandchildren Sally, Eloise, and twins Theo and James Wortman.
The family will have a private graveside service.
