William Randolph “Randy” Hursey of Tryon, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026. Randy was preceded in death by his parents Wilburn and Ann Hursey and his brother Richard “Dick” Hursey. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susan “Susie” Moss Hursey; their daughter Jill Hicks (Jim); his granddaughter, Sophie; his sisters in law Margaret Bellamy (Martin), Jenny Renfroe (Andy); and Cile Hursey; his brother in law Joe Moss (Anna); nieces; nephews; numerous cousins; his Milliken friends; and his long time and beloved Wofford “brothers” and their families.
Born in Columbus, Ohio as the elder son of a military family, Randy spent his early years in Japan, the Philippines, and several US military bases. He was a graduate of Newberry High School and a 1971 graduate of Wofford College. He spent his professional career as a market manager for Milliken & Company, retiring in 2011 after 40 years of loyal service.
In his retirement, Randy loved to garden, travel, enjoy collegiate sports, fish, and spend time with friends and family. He served as an unofficial ambassador for Wofford College- recruiting students, connecting alumni, and always wearing his school’s colors of black and gold. He regularly used the phrase “go little dogs, YIP! YIP!”.
