Thomas B. Waldrop, Jr. June 2, 1935 – August 8, 2025
Thomas B. Waldrop, Jr., 90, of Laurens, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on
August 8, 2025, at National Healthcare in Laurens. Born on June 2, 1935, in
Campobello, SC, Thomas was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He
was preceded in death by his father, Thomas B. Waldrop, Sr., his mother, Isabelle
High Waldrop, and his sister, Betty Ann Waldrop. A talented athlete in his youth,
Thomas played baseball for Campobello High School and in the textile mill league of
upstate South Carolina—where his competitive spirit and love of the game left lasting
memories among teammates and fans alike. After proudly serving his country in the
United States Air Force, Thomas embarked on a career in the automotive industry,
working as a car dealer for more than 50 years. Known for his handshake deals, easy
smile, and dedication to his customers, he built lifelong friendships alongside his
business. Thomas had a zest for life’s simple joys—he was an avid NASCAR fan who
never missed a race and a devoted cat lover whose feline companions brought him
great happiness. His last beloved cat, King Kong, was a constant source of comfort
and companionship. Those who knew Thomas will remember his quick wit, steadfast
loyalty, and the quiet generosity with which he touched many lives. His dear friends
James Gambrell and his wife, Leslie, were especially close to him in his later years,
sharing in his laughter, stories, and companionship. Deep appreciation is extended to
the staff of National Healthcare in Laurens—and especially to Kealah Cheshire—for
the kindness, compassion, and dedicated care they gave Thomas in his final years.
Their warmth and support meant the world to him and to all who were close to him. In
honoring Thomas’s life, friends and loved ones celebrate a man who lived with
devotion to his friends, pride in his work, and love for the things—and creatures—that
made his days brighter.
