Sylvia Payne Bruce, 96, Matriarch of five generations entered her heavenly home on March 1, 2025. She was born in Mebane, NC on November 28, 1928 to the late Henry and Rosa Lee Hundley Payne. She was the widow of Garrell Bruce of Landrum, SC.
Sylvia loved people and always seemed to find something good in everyone she met. She loved making quilts, crossword puzzles and working in the yard. In her 96 years, she was blessed with a loving family that she loved dearly.
Sylvia is survived by a daughter, Judy Mahaffey (James) and a granddaughter Beverly Hyder Barnette (Joshua). She was blessed with five great grandchildren, Holly Ruppe (Caleb), Kyle Hyder (Caitlin), Casey Hyder, Hayleigh Harris (Todd), and Kayleigh Hyder; two great-great grandchildren Foster Ruppe and Owen Hyder. She is also survived by a sister Alberta Lane (Roy Allen) and a brother Henry Belue (Martha). She was predeceased by a granddaughter Julie Annette Mahaffey.; two sisters Dixie Lee McSwain and Lucille Luker; and a grandson-in-law Johnny Hyder.
The family would like to extend thanks to all who visited and prayed for her since her fall and give a special thank you to Christina Cole who has been a big blessing during this time. Words cannot express our gratitude for all you have done.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Inman Church. A funeral service will follow at the church at 3:00pm conducted by Rev. Sean Fortner and Rev. Andy Moore. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Judy Mahaffey in Campobello.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Hyder, Casey Hyder, Caleb Ruppe, Joshua Barnette, Todd Harris and Chandler Baumgardner.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Inman Church in her memory, 90 Blackstock Road, Inman, SC 29349.
