TRYON, NORTH CAROLINA - Ruth Claiborne Rose, age 98, a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on February 6, 2025 in Tryon, North Carolina.
Ruth was born on December 26,1926 in Spartanburg, South Carolina to the late Charles Edward and Iva Johnson Claiborne. Ruth grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee and married James Robert Rose, also of Knoxville, in 1948.
Ruth instilled her strong values and religious beliefs in her family. She taught Sunday School and organized numerous dinners at her Church. She was active in the Red Cross, President of the Green Valley Garden Club, and served as PTA President at her children’s school. In her leisure time, she played golf and tennis and in her later years took up Yoga. She enjoyed travel and was able to visit many places in the United States and abroad.
Ruth is survived by her two children: Richard Rose of Houston, Texas and Susan Penfold and her husband, Bob of Tryon, North Carolina. She has three grandchildren, Amy Medici and her husband Michael of Wellesley, MA; Lauren Crepeau and her husband Jason of Atlanta, GA and Will Penfold and his wife Elyse of Atlanta, GA, and six great grandchildren, Cecilia Medici, Ethan Medici, Wesley Crepeau, Lily Crepeau, Rory Penfold and Everest “Evie” Penfold.
