Rufus "Lindsey" Stewart, of Landrum, passed away on May 28, 2022. He is the husband of Barbara Ann Whitesides Stewart and the son of the late Shirley Talmadge and Pearl Ethel Lindsey Stewart.
Lindsey worked as a machinist at Landrum Mills for 35 years, serving as foreman of the machine shop prior to his retirement in 1994. He also operated his own shop, applying his abilities to farm equipment repair, welding, milling, fabrication, and mechanic work.
Lindsey was a diehard Clemson fan who enjoyed pulling for the Tigers - and anyone that played USC. His blood ran orange!
Lindsey placed his full faith in Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He served as a Deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church of Landrum for over 40 years, and was instrumental in the construction of the current sanctuary and parsonage. He loved the people of the Oak Grove community and was proud to be from Dark Corner. He expressed this love through a commitment to live out his faith, which he did daily.
In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by daughter, Sonya Dobbins (Ben); a son, Rev. Lynn Stewart (Tamera); grandchildren, Rachel Foister, Hope James, Lindsay Dobbins, Hollis Dobbins, Seth Stewart and Blake Dobbins; great grandchildren, Gracelyn and Ellie Foister.
He was predeceased by a brother, Cecil Stewart.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 31, 2022, from 12:30 - 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Landrum, SC. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM conducted by Rev. Lynn Stewart and Rev. David Grigg. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
