Robert Ohlenschlager, 58, of Landrum went to be with the Lord on November 15, 2019. Robert and his wife Anne have lived in Landrum since 2016 when they married and moved south from Minnesota. Robert was a true family man, he loved his three daughters and embraced Anne's entire family. Together they created a home perfect for everyone to gather. Robert was unwaveringly supportive of those he loved, but also quite the tease. He didn't need to use many words to keep everyone laughing. One of his favorite activities was driving around in his Land Rover with his bulldog Beauhart serving as his copilot.
Growing up in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa sparked Robert's fascination with rocks and minerals. This passion eventually inspired him to pursue accreditation as a Precious Metalsmith and Diamond Setter. Robert's first studio opened in 1993 in South Africa and he immigrated to the USA in 2010. Custom handcrafted jewelry is rare, but Robert dedicated his life to keeping this craft alive, with many of his pieces incorporating elements of South Africa. He and his family made many memories traveling around the country for jewelry shows
!
Robert was a beloved husband, father, son, Oupa and friend. He will be greatly missed by his wife Anne, daughters Engela (husband Andre), Liesl and Klaurese, stepchildren Elizabeth (husband Adam), Mark and William, grandchildren Lian and Estelle, parents Klaus and Engela and siblings Sandra and Manfred.
Services will be held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church on Monday, November 25 at 11:00 AM. The family has designated Best Buddies North Carolina for memorial contributions.
"And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched… for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much." - Ellen Brenneman
