Landrum – Richard E. Radford, 90, completed his journey on earth on June 8, 2024, at Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum, SC. He was born in Burnsville, NC, the son of Stanley and Sue Radford. He graduated from Weaverville High School in 1952. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War followed by the Naval Reserves.
Richard married the love of his life Louise Palmer in 1959 and devoted himself to her and his family. He considered himself fortunate to celebrate 64 years of marriage to his love.
Richard retired as a District Manager from Public Service Gas Company of NC after 35 years of service. Richard enjoyed serving his community. Over the years, he was a member of the Tryon Lions Club, Rutherfordton Kawanis and Lions Clubs, President of the Booster Club for Tryon High School, a local Little League coach, and member of Tryon First Baptist Church.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his 9 siblings and his son Richard Thomas “Tommy” Radford. He is survived by his wife Louise Palmer Radford, his daughter, Denise Radford Appleyard and spouse David of Winston-Salem, NC, daughter-in-law Karen G. Radford of Irmo, SC. Richard is also survived by his 4 grandchildren: Matthew Radford of Asheville, NC, Jennifer Appleyard Welch and spouse Chris of Apex, NC, Andrew Appleyard of Cary, NC, and Katlyn Radford of Irmo, SC. He has two great grandchildren, Oliver and Benjamin Welch of Apex, NC. In addition, his life was blessed with many nieces and nephews and their families whom he loved and adored.
A service of remembrance will be held on June 10, 2024 at 2:00pm at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Tryon First Baptist Church Complete Capital Campaign Fund and mailed to PO Box 1287, Tryon, NC 28782 or to Upstate Community Hospice House, 260 Fairwinds Drive, Landrum, SC 29356.
