Raymond "Ray" Kenney, 73, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; a son, Patrick; a daughter, Susan; a grandson, Logan; two sisters, Patricia Leonardo, Mary Clarke; two brothers, Arthur and Thomas.
Ray was born and grew up in Manhattan and lived in the New York Metropolitan area until his retirement from the corporation now known at Footlocker. After college, Ray was drafted into the army. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was sent to Vietnam for a tour of duty in 1969-1970, during which time he was awarded a Silver Star and four Bronze Stars for valor. He was also awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with the Palm Leaf by the government of South Vietnam and offered a battlefield commission.
The Kenney's moved to Campobello in 2005 and Ray immediately embraced life in the country. He enjoyed puttering on his "farm", taking care of his four donkeys, and meeting his ever-growing circle of friends in Landrum to solve the problems of the world. Ray was a volunteer at Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry in Columbus, NC.
A funeral mass will be held 10:00am Monday, November 26,2018 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church,180 Laurel Avenue, Tryon, NC 28782 conducted by Father Jason Christian.
