Ray Greene Obituary

Ray J. Greene
Dateline: Landrum, SC

A beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Ray J. Greene, born March 11, 1934, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, while surrounded by loved ones.  He was predeceased by his parents, James Marion and Queen Esther Gilbert Greene and 10 brothers and sisters.

Born and raised in Gowensville, Ray was an avid outdoorsman who loved logging and working with his hands.  He also was proud of his military service in the Army and Air Force and his 48 year career with Bigelow-Sanford.  He was a dedicated life-long member of Gowensville Baptist Church.  He is lovingly remembered for his ability to fix anything, his skills with a chainsaw, his love of Old Spice, cashews and yellow Gatorade and his arsenal of jokes.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Roddy Greene; four children, Jenneth Greene, Teresa Gosnell (Jerry), Natalie Rossi (Bill), and Keith Greene; six grandchildren, Drs. Stephen Gosnell (Courtney), Casey Gosnell (Lindsey), Andrew Gosnell (Megan), Forrest Rossi, Hunter Rossi, and Rachel Greene; and three great grandchildren, Avery Gosnell, Adelyn Gosnell and Owen Gosnell.

Immediate family will have a private celebration of life, after which Ray will be laid to rest in the Gowensville Baptist Church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mobile Meals of Spartanburg.
