Penny Zuniga Obituary

Penny Ramsey Zuniga, 59, of 201 E. Blue Ridge St. Landrum, SC won her courageous fight with cancer on Tuesday evening, July 22, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family and friends.  Penny was the glue to her family.  She held us all together so well.  Her untimely passing will leave a void in our hearts forever.  Penny loved everyone, no matter their past, where they were from or the road they were currently walking.  Penny had a servant’s heart and loved Jesus so much.  The love of God always shined through Penny.  She always had a smile on her face and a kind word to offer to anyone who needed it.  She loved flowers and plants, no matter what kind they were.  Her love for them was evident by all the plants and flowers in her yard.  Penny worked at Synergy In Action where she loved her coworkers and all of the clients they cared for.

Penny was a loyal member of Glory Road Baptist Church where she faithfully worshiped the Lord.   The members of Glory Road Baptist Church quickly became a part of her family.   She loved everyone who attends there.  There was no doubt in her mind that God led her there.  She often said what a blessing it was to attend church with such wonderful people.   They have walked every mile of her daddy's sickness with our family and was by her and our family's side every step of the way with her illness.   We are forever grateful for all of them.

Penny was born in Spartanburg, SC to her daddy, the late George Ramsey and her mama, Barbara Ramsey of Landrum, SC.  She made it her mission to always make sure her daddy and mama were always taken care of.  She was her parents’ protector.  She honored and loved them with her whole heart.

Penny was the loving wife to Modesto Zuniga of Landrum.  He was at her side from the moment she got her diagnosis in June and walked every step of the journey with her.  Modesto was her safe place in her time of illness.  He took wonderful care of her, around the clock, without one complaint.  In sickness and in health, the love they shared was remarkable.

One of the biggest honors of Penny’s life was being a mama and grandmother.  Penny was a phenomenal mother to her three boys, Jason (Sarah) Fisher of Forest City, NC, Ethan (Lyndsey) Fisher of Freeport, FL and Austin (Mariia) Rivero of Boiling Springs, SC and bonus son, Raymond Frazier of Landrum, SC.  The greatest title she ever held was Nina.  She was Nina to four incredible grandchildren:  Lily, Lizzie, William and Weston.  Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life.  She enjoyed every second she was able to spend with any of them.  Her love was deep for each one of them and her love will always shine through them.  There were so many of her boy’s friends who she loved through the years.  She made sure they felt just as important as her own boys.

Penny was the best big sister to Cindy Ramsey of Landrum, SC, Ricky Ramsey of Landrum, SC and Travis Ramsey (Travis Staggs) of Anderson, SC.  She loved each of them deeply and no matter what, she was always there for them.  She was her sister and brother’s keeper.  Her nieces and nephews held a special place in her heart.  She is survived by nephews Tyler Ramsey and Trent Ramsey both of Landrum and nieces Tiffany Ramsey of Landrum and Alexis Ramsey (Dylan) of Inman.  She loved her time with her great nieces and nephew Paislee, Ellee, Kilynn and Ayden.  She is survived by several aunts and uncles who she loved so much.  Penny had a host of cousins who she loved like they were brothers and sisters.  She was a dear friend to so many with whom she had been friends with most of her life.  She was the cousin and friend that, no matter what, she was there for them just as they were there for her.

The love Penny had for God, her family and friends ran deep.  She would want the void she has left in her family and friend's lives to be filled with precious memories of the time we all had with her.  Her prayer was always that her family and friends would accept Jesus into their heart.  She would want each one of them to love and take care of each other.  If we all could love and accept everyone like Penny did, this would be a much better place.

The family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for the compassionate care and support from the staff of Patriot Hospice.  The incredible care and support all of you provided to Penny and our family was a blessing from God.  Your presence, empathy and unwavering kindness will never be forgotten.  Thank you all for being a beacon of light in our lives and for the tremendous work you all do every day.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 from 12-2 at Petty Funeral Home with the funeral at 2:00 in the chapel at the funeral home.

We take comfort in knowing she is in the presents of her savior wrapped in eternal peace and joy.

The family will be at the home.

Flowers will be accepted.  With Penny loving plants and flowers so much, it’s only fitting that we leave the option open for anyone who would like to show their love for her.
