Thursday, April 9, 2026, Norman Durand Brannon went home to be with his Savior and join his daughter Colleen in their heavenly home. What a reunion it was. Norm, as most people knew him, left behind the love of his life, Marion E. Brannon. Norm and Marion were married 68 years. Norm and Marion were inseparable. They shared a single heart-beat.
Norm was born September 12, 1937 in Green Creek, NC. At an early age, his parents Troy Brannon and Roena Smothers moved their family to Michigan. It was there, in Detroit, MI, that he met Marion. They married on December 21, 1957. Norm and Marion are the parents of two children: Doug Brannon of Green Creek, NC and their beautiful Colleen Marie Brannon who died May 28, 1985. Norm's heart never really recovered from her death.
In 1978, Norm and Marion moved from Michigan to Polk County, North Carolina and became the owners of Brannon's Restaurant in Landrum, SC. Norm was the front man. He greeted you and seated you. He was the face of the business and he loved to serve people. You may remember the wonderful garden he built in honor of his beautiful Colleen there at the restaurant.
After his restaurant days ended, Norm loved mission work in Lebanon, he enjoyed Marion's reading the bible every night and their prayer time. He was a master at growing gardens and truly cherished spending time with Marion at the lake or Red Fox. Aside from Marion, Norm's two favorite people were always Spike and Lexi. No matter his day, when either or both of his grandchildren walked in, his face lit up and his cares went out the window. Norm was so proud of his grandkids and enjoyed his role as PaPa. Later on, he was also very proud of Chris and Cody. PaPa Brannon was Norm's favorite name.
Norm leaves behind his wife, the love of his life, his partner in everything and best friend, Marion; his son Doug Brannon and Doug's wife Tracey; grandson Clayton "Spike" Brannon and his wife Brittny; granddaughter Lexi Brannon; and Chris and Cody Heyer. Great grandkids Hailey, Henry, George, Scarlett and Dorothy.
Norm was predeceased by his brothers Wally and Troy. The three brothers are back together and a joke or trick is being played on someone right now. Norm Brannon made a lot of great friends in his life. The love he had for Jesus, Marion, his family and all those friends made for an amazing life. If he could, right now, Norm would be telling all of you Thank You.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at Petty Funeral Home from 6:00-7:30pm. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at Petty Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens.
