Melvin Jackson Blackwell, 83, of Landrum went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 31, 2024. He was the son of the late Oscar and Millie Lockhart Blackwell and husband of the late Bessie Mae Painter Blackwell.
Melvin was a strong Christian man who loved the Lord and loved reading, teaching and discussing the Bible with people. He retired from Mohawk Industries after 38 years of service.
He is survived by a son Phillip Melvin Blackwell; a daughter Donna Mae Gettys (George); two brothers, Woodrow Blackwell and Lonnie Blackwell; three sisters, Hazel Pace, Helen Johnson and Dorothy Painter; and a granddaughter Samantha Holick (Stephen).
In addition to his wife Bessie, he was predeceased by two brothers, J.D. Blackwell and Marshall Blackwell.
A Celebration of Life service for Melvin and his wife Bessie will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given at the Celebration of Life service.
