Mary "Beth" Elizabeth (McNeill) Short

Mary "Beth" Elizabeth (McNeill) Short, 72, died Saturday, September 23, at home after a long illness. Born May 9, 1951 to John Hallman Brazell and Barbara (Bobby) Eugenia Prince Brazell, she was the oldest of four children. 

Beth retired after a 41 year career with Milliken & Company at corporate headquarters. She worked with various groups within the company including Accounts Payable, Customer Service, Retail Partnerships and, most notably, Human Resources. 

She is survived by her loving husband Robert, and a sister Cindy Frey (Jody) and brother Mike Brazell (Mechelle) and is predeceased by a brother Alex Brazell. Nephews include Kris Brazell, Shane McAbee (Sarah), Travis McAbee (Theresa), Tyler Brazell (Chandler), and Brandon Brazell. Great nieces and nephews include Madeline McAbee, Dashiell Brazell, Kaley, John Aden and Emily McAbee, Levi, Bella and Grayson McAbee and Ren Brazell. She also has a stepson, Matt McNeill. 

As the family matriarch, she hosted boisterous family holiday gatherings at the new home she and her husband of nine years built. Her equally boisterous Sunday School class and her circle of retired Milliken ladies also enjoyed many suppers and holidays there. Her generous spirit was evidenced by gifts of imaginative handmade soaps and candles. She enjoyed learning to paint with water colors. And she loved to travel and spent many hours riding through the  nearby mountains in their convertible. 

Beth's memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, September 30 at Gowensville First Baptist Church sanctuary, 5650 SC Hwy 14, Landrum, SC. 29356, and will be followed by visitation in the Family Life Center.
