Marilyn Kelley Obituary

Marilyn Murray Kelley, age 86, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024, after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Dr. Henry G. Kelley, Jr., and her son, Henry G. Kelley, III.

She is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Kelley McInnis (Royce) of Tryon, NC, and Lisa Kelley Killorin (Wylly) of Columbus, GA, and grandchildren, Kelley Edwards (Wes), Wylly Killorin (Hallie), and Coleman Killorin (Abby).

A beautiful soul who radiated kindness, Marilyn was a lover of rocks and shells, sand, and soil. She could never pass up gathering a smooth stone or imperfect shell that caught her eye as she strolled along the shore. Some of her happiest days were weeding her flower beds and planting bulbs to anxiously await their varied buds in the spring.

Marilyn dedicated her life to her family, creating a beautiful home and lasting memories of the wonderful smells wafting from the kitchen as she would seamlessly cook dinner, help with homework, and foster the imaginations of her children. She forever fostered loving family traditions such as creating Easter baskets with her own dyed eggs and embracing every family celebration to the fullest and with plenty of humor.

Marilyn loved her community as well and served as Past President of Spartanburg Medical Society Alliance and was a member of the Spartanburg Debutant Club, Junior League of Spartanburg, First Presbyterian Church, and the Shortia Flower Club.

She was known as Gigi to her grandchildren and developed a love of baseball while watching her grandsons, Wylly and Coleman, play. She avidly supported Kelley’s cheerleading and other school-related activities.

A celebration of life service for Marilyn will be held on Friday, March 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Piedmont Club, 361 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The club has a no denim policy.

In remembrance of Marilyn, contributions may be made to the Girl Scout Camp Mary Elizabeth, 330 Scout Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
