Retired Sgt. Major Mack Carl Barton, 88, passed away on November 15, 2025, at his home on Turner Barton Road in Landrum, South Carolina.
Born to the late Gary and Hattie Barton, Mack lived a life marked by dedication, service, and unwavering integrity. A devoted member of Motlow Creek Baptist Church, he found strength in his faith and community.
Sgt. Major Barton honorably served in the Army National Guard, retiring after an exceptional 39 years of service to his country. In addition to his military service, Mack retired from Homelite after 24 years of dedicated work. He was also a lifelong cattle farmer, tending the land with the same commitment and discipline that defined every part of his life.
Mack is survived by his loving wife, Jean G. Barton; his daughter, Kathy Barton; his grandchildren, Kyle and Will Barton; and his great-grandsons, Jase and Brett. He is also survived by three great-granddaughters, Kaisley, Adley, and Lucie, as well as his brother, Theron Barton.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Bobbie Jean Barton; his son, Terry Barton; his brother, Olin Barton; and his sister, Jenell Barton.
Mack will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to family, community, and country. His legacy of service, hard work, and love-whether in uniform, at Homelite, or on the farm will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00PM of Friday, November 21, 2025 at Motlow Creek Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 3:00PM conducted by Rev. Ralph Jett and Rev. Dalton Fowler. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military honors will be rendered to honor his military service.
