Linda Williams Obituary

Linda Lee Thomson Williams, 79, of Landrum, passed away peacefully at her home on July 6, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Born on January 11, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Delphene and Barham Foster Thomson, Jr.

As a girl, Linda earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, which is the highest and most prestigious award in Girl Scouting. A 1965 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School, Linda earned her Bachelor of Arts from Florida Southern University in 1969, where she served as President of her sorority, Phi Mu; and a Master of Education Degree from Converse College. She dedicated her life to supporting others, especially those in greatest need, teaching elementary school at Campobello-Gramling School and later working with Greenville County Schools at the Dunbar Child Development Center, where she developed an innovative support program for teenage mothers known as the Teen Parent Program. Her commitment to education extended to serving multiple terms on the Spartanburg District 1 School Board and leading Parent Teacher Association meetings at O.P. Earle Elementary School and Landrum High School.

Linda was a member of the Methodist Church in Landrum where she served as a Sunday School teacher, care provider in the church nursery, and substitute organist and pianist.

Linda is survived by her husband of 56 years, Fred Williams; her son, Lorin F. Williams, Jr.; and two daughters, Johanna Williams Crum (Josh) and Laura Williams; six grandchildren, Savannah Williams Blackwell (Jesse), Cole Williams, Wyatt Crum, Berham Crum, Kaedyn Turner, Coltyn Turner; and two great-grandchildren, Tinley Blackwell and Waylon Blackwell; her sister, Susan Thomson Shi and her sister-in-law, Linda Lou Thomson.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Barham Foster Thomson, III.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Petty Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 11:30 AM at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, conducted by Father William Broome.
