Tryon, NC- Lillian “Jerri” Chapman Newton, 85, of Tryon, NC, died Tuesday, June 21, 2022 in her home.
Born in Rutherford County, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Garfield and Geneva Ramsey Chapman, and the widow of the late Homer Newton. Lillian loved her family, her dogs, Elvis, and collecting knick-knacks. She also enjoyed fishing and traveling.
She was predeceased by two sons, Billy Spurgeon Butler, Jr. and Ronald Dennis Butler, and a granddaughter, Haylee Seres.
Surviving are a son, Scott Newton (Sarah); three daughters, Debbie Seres (Alan), Janice McCraw (Tom) and Linda Garland (Johnny); a brother, W.G. “Sonny” Chapman, Jr. (Barbara); a sister, Doris Simmons (Clarence); 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am, Friday, June 24, 2022 at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery with Mr. Tom McCraw officiating.
The family will receive friends from 9:30am – 10:30am at Petty Funeral Home prior to the service.
