Obituary

Kenneth Edward Woodard, Sr., 90, of Landrum passed away on November 11, 2021.  He was the son of the late Walter Andrew and Mae Elizabeth Herron Woodard and the husband of Irene Good Woodard.

He was a member of Ebenezer Welcome Baptist Church and retired as a television engineer from WLOS Channel 13 after 32 years.  Kenneth was a member of the Western Carolina Amateur Radio Society and the Civil Air Patrol.  He had a passion for Ham Radio and the following was written by a friend and radio colleague, Randy Johnston, KE4RQL.  "The Founder, Ken Woodard"  "Ham radio has been a big part of Ken Woodards' life over the years.  He has influenced many that have been a part of the 6600 net, as well as a part of many other aspects of ham radio.  The many years that he would go up to one of the mountain tops in the middle of the night to fix a problem with one of the repeaters.  For all of the money that he took out of his own pocket to buy a new transmitter or controller, or power supply.  Not to mention the gas money that he spent just going up to the mountain to readjust the squelch on a receiver.  My hat goes off to him in a big way.  I can't thank him enough for all the hours of service, usually thankless, that he has given to the hobby.  Thanks Ken.  You are the greatest." Ken was a good Christian Man who was kind and gentle.  He served as a Deacon at several different churches.  He loved music and singing, especially in church.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He and the love of his life Irene were married for almost 65 years.

He is survived by a son, Kenneth Edward Woodard, Jr.; three daughters, June Wilson (Tommy), Joyce Hannah (Victor) and Joan Moon (Brian); a sister, Judy Melton; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Lon Woodard and two sisters, Pauline Laney and BrittaLee Carpenter.
