Johnny Horton

Johnny Michael Horton, 78, of Roebuck, SC, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Born in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late John and Bea Cothran Horton. Johnny loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Johnny also enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and watching the Atlanta Braves and USC Gamecocks. He was a veteran of the U.S. military, serving twenty-two years with the Army and Army National Guard. Johnny was a member of Melvin Hill Church, where he served in various capacities.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Horton; a son, Jeff Horton (Crystal); two daughters, Wendy Horton (Amber) and Jamie Smith (Blair); a sister, Kay Pack (James); grandchildren, Dwayne Hughes, Allison Oelkers, Casen Smith, Mary Ella Smith, and Mason Horton; a great-grandchild, Sophia Hughes. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Johnny was predeceased by his siblings, Daphne Martin, Martha Waldrop, Nancy Cantrell, and Ray Horton.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00p.m., Monday, June 22, 2026 at Melvin Hill Church with Rev. Craig Scruggs officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00p.m. to 2:00p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
