John Hubron Chitwood, 97, of Landrum, SC went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Hospice of Carolina Foothills - Forest City. Born in Polk County, NC, he was the son of the late Cleatus H. and Penola Greene Chitwood. He was the husband of Malorie Green Chitwood. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and was a weaver at Landrum Mills.
Left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Phyllis (Michael) Spicer; two sons, Kevin Chitwood, and Larry (Goldie) Chitwood; two grandchildren, Brandy Davis, and Brian Chitwood; two great grandchildren, Claudia Painter, and Alex Davis; three sisters, Marvetta Stott, Shirley Moore, Katherine Goode; and one brother, Jimmy (Patti) Chitwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Martin Chitwood; one daughter, Karen Chitwood; one sister, Ester Chitwood; and two brothers, Burlin Chitwood, and Bobby Joe Chitwood.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 3:00pm - 5:00pm at Petty Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 10:00am at Walnut Hill Baptist Church with a burial to follow at Good Shepherd Memorial Park.
