Jean Eileen Mary Melford Bridger, 90, of Greenville, SC went to be with the Lord on January 13, 2022. Born in London, England, she and her family moved to Greenville in 1969. She was the daughter of the late Edward Henry and Mary Jane Melford.
Jean was a faithful member in her early adult years at St. Francis Episcopal Church (Greenville) and her later years at St. James Episcopal Church (Greenville) where she served as the church volunteer receptionist for several years. She sang in the church choir for most of her adult years, and for many years she sang with the Greenville Chorale. As a professional and certified Secretary and Administrator, Jean served on many engineering projects with Daniel Construction and CRS Sirrine Engineers.
Jean was an avid tennis player up until she was 88 and volunteered for many years and shifts at Greenville’s Peace Center. She was very involved with Furman University and it’s OLLI program and classes.
Jean will be missed by her daughters, Susan Tompkins (Scott) and Janet Reed (Doug); granddaughters, Jennifer T. Jones (Walden), Mallory Reed-Kollig (Matt), and grandson, Ian Reed; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Eliza Jones. Jean is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sheila Careford (Clive); niece, Louise Myers (Greg) and nephew, Nigel Careford (Janette.) We are very grateful for the love and care given mom by Manning Place, Legacy of SouthPointe facilities, and her Agape Hospice team.
A private service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church (Greenville) at a later date. Due to Covid, Jean’s families are not receiving visitors at this time.
Memorials may be made to Operation Hope, 206 E. Rutherford St., Landrum, SC 29356.
