James Edward McDowell, 83, of Columbus, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on June 6, 2025. He was born on October 31, 1941, and was a lifelong resident of the Columbus area.
James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared 59 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, April McDowell. Together, they raised three children: Alvin McDowell (Ingrid) of Colorado, Wendy McDowell of Lake Bowen, and Shane McDowell (Rebecca) of Gowensville. He was a proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.
A hardworking man, James spent his career as a skilled brick mason, a trade he took great pride in. He was known for his dedication, quiet strength, and the love he had for his family.
The family will receive visitors at the home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor James and the legacy he leaves behind.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
