James E. Coates, Sr.

James Edward Coates, Sr. "Jim", 87, of Inman, passed away on June 3, 2021 at Lakewood Senior Living in Boiling Springs, SC.  He was the husband of Nannie W. Coates for 69 years.  He was born  July 9, 1933 in Campobello, SC, the son of the late Rev. Wayne Coates and Lyda M. Coates of Accokee, MD.

He was a member of Inman First Freewill Baptist Church and retired from being self-employed from Coates Lawn Service.  He served in US Army and a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his wife, Nannie, he is survived by one son Ronald Coates (Shirley) of Woodruff; a grandson; one great granddaughter and one great grandson of Arizona.  He was predeceased by a son, James Coates, Jr. "Jimmy" of Arizona; four brothers and one sister.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the caregivers of Lakewood Senior Living, Helping Hands of Boiling Springs and Agape Hospice Team.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00am Monday, June 7, 2021 at Good Shepherd Memorial Park, 4164 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC conducted by Rev. Sean Fortner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Inman First Freewill Baptist Church, 90 Blackstock Road, Inman, SC  29349.
