Carl Lloyd Gene Stallard, 77 of Campobello passed away on April 21, 2023.
He was the son of the late Grace Jackson Stallard and husband of Martha Bagwell Stallard.
Gene Stallard retired from his teaching and coaching career after 30 years in Spartanburg and Union counties. He coached many sports but his passion and dedication was to the game of basketball. He was inducted into the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2022. He was proud and grateful for that honor.
After retirement, he spent time in his greenhouse and playing golf with his sons, his favorite foursome. He loved fall Saturdays in Knoxville with his family and the Tennessee Volunteers. He enjoyed college football, Peyton Manning's career and the Los Angeles Dodgers. As a true sports fan, he loved attending and watching games with his kids and wife.
He was a devoted husband to his wife, Martha for over 50 years. Their retirement days were spent enjoying their favorite place, their home and yard. His favorite job was being a Dad. As his health declined, he treasured being surrounded by his children in his home and being "Poppie" to his grandchildren. His presence influenced the lives of many people and he will be greatly missed by his family and community.
