Ethel "Snookie" Aline (Palmer) Cochrane

Ethel Aline "Snookie" Cochrane (Palmer) passed away on June 30, 2026, in Greer, South Carolina. Born on December 17, 1931, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, to the late Robert Raymond and Nellie Ozell Palmer, she lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to her family and community.

Ethel built a career working for the State of Tennessee before retiring from the State of South Carolina. Her work ethic and commitment were evident throughout her professional life, but it was her warmth and generosity that truly defined her.

She is survived by her son, Raymond R. Cochrane of Taylors, SC; her daughter, Ramona Cochrane of Greenville, SC; four grandchildren: Jeanetta (Gene) Morrow of Greer, SC, Raymond (Robin) Cochrane of Greer, SC, Jacquelynn (Shane) Cochrane of Greer, SC, and Ryann Cochrane of Greenville, SC; and four great-grandchildren: Cody (Emerald) Morrow, Heidi Morrow, Holli Morrow, and Wylder Cochrane, all of Greer, SC. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Cochrane (1987); her daughter, Diana M. Cochrane (1960); and her granddaughter, Taylor M. Cochrane (1995).

Ethel was cherished by all who knew her. Known for her sass and wittiness, she had a playful spirit and loved joking around with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She had a passion for sewing and needlework, creating beautiful clothes, drapery, quilts, and other handcrafted treasures that she generously shared with loved ones. Whether crocheting, knitting, cross-stitching, or embroidering, she poured love into every piece she made.

Her kitchen was the heart of her home. She delighted in cooking and baking for her family and could often be found whistling and dancing as she prepared Sunday & Holiday meals. From snapping beans on the porch to preserving Silver Queen corn for the winter months, she found joy in fresh food and the simple pleasures of visiting local farms to pick. Despite being allergic to certain plants that caused rashes, she maintained one of the most beautiful yards in the neighborhood-her azaleas a testament to her dedication.

Ethel had a deep love for music and dancing. Whether square dancing or enjoying a night out at the honky-tonks, she never missed an opportunity to take to the dance floor. She also cherished traveling back home to visit family and friends while reminiscing about the ever-changing days of her childhood.

Her kindness extended beyond family-she opened her home to those in need and provided a safe haven for loved ones during difficult times. She volunteered at the local soup kitchen for years and was actively involved in her grandchildren's schools. Her generosity knew no bounds.

With an impeccable sense of style that kept up with trends through the years, Ethel was affectionately known as the "hip Granny" that everyone wanted to be around. Even neighborhood children would knock on her door asking if she could come out to play when her grandkids weren't home-a testament to the warmth and fun-loving spirit she brought into every life she touched.

Ethel Aline "Snookie" Cochrane leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering generosity. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Petty Funeral Home in Landrum, SC, conducted by Chaplain W. Bryon Bellotte. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The burial will be at Willow Mount Cemetery in Shelbyville, TN, on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
