Edward A. Crandall, 85, of Inman, SC, passed away on September 8, 2024. He was the beloved son of the late Earl and Marian Louise Lareva Crandall and the devoted husband of the late Lynda Sue Crandall.
Before marrying Lynda, Edward proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, an experience that further ignited his lifelong passion for aviation. His time in the Air Force helped shape his discipline, dedication, and deep respect for learning, traits that remained with him throughout his life.
Edward grew up on a large farm in Michigan, where he developed a strong work ethic from a young age. His love for farming never faded, and he continued to farm for many more years, even while working at Rockwell International. His dedication to both his career and the land was a testament to his unbelievable work ethic and perseverance.
He was a cherished member of Harvest Baptist Church, where he found joy in leading the choir. His passion for music and community was a key part of his life. Outside of the church, Edward had a deep love for aviation. In 1983, he achieved a lifelong dream by completing his first solo flight through the Experimental Plane Association. He also had a great admiration for antique tractors, particularly Oliver tractors, which he fondly referred to as "the finest in farm machinery."
Another of Edward’s passions was tending to his garden, where he spent countless hours cultivating fruits and vegetables. He took great care in studying the weather to ensure optimal planting seasons for his produce.
Before his retirement, Edward worked for over 20 years at Rockwell International in the automotive sector. After relocating to South Carolina, he continued to enjoy working as part of the Lawn & Garden Department at Walmart.
Edward is survived by his sons, Mark Crandall (Wendy) and David Crandall; daughters, Robin Tenwalde (Dirk), Dawn Taylor (David), and Teresa Davis (Michael); his brother, John Crandall; sister, Frances Walker; sixteen grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Crandall; his sister, Elizabeth Langley; and his son-in-law, Dirk Tenwalde.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Petty Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Pastor James Burgess and Pastor Dustin Duke. Burial will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
