It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Edith Stern Larsen, who left us on May 8, 2025. Born on February 7,1928 in Nuremburg, Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jules Norton Larsen, parents. Max Stern and Elisabeth Ohlschmidt Stern; a brother Richard Stern and a cousin Gertrude O. Hipple.
Survivors include a son Bruce R. Larsen (Suzanne) of Marietta, GA, daughter Caron Larsen Tucker (Tom) of Bradfordsville, Ky: three grandchildren Samuel Stern Larsen, Elizabeth Tucker Edwards (Kris), Austin Thomas Tucker (Camille). Four great grandchildren Edith Camille Tucker, Margot Cornett Tucker, Thomas Theodore Tucker, and Sophie Hazel Edwards.
Edith immigrated to the United States in 1949 from Germany to New York City where she landed her first job working for AT&T as a switch board operator soon after she became a German translator for German conference calls at AT&T. One year her voice was tested and she became the Voice for America that was listened to all over Europe.
One of her contributions to the community was teaching conversational German at the Isothermal College. She loved entertaining, history, music, cooking, and the beauty of nature. Edith developed so many friendships in the Tryon Community. Special devoted friendships including Jane Foster, Terry McMillan and Ruth and Tony DeSterino.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 1:00pm at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 150 Melrose Ave, Tryon, NC 28782.
Interment will be at Old Liberty Cemetery, Bradfordsville, KY.
