Dorothy York, affectionately known by friends as Dot, lovingly known by her family as Mimi, Memommie, Dossie or Mama Dot, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 96, surrounded by her family on March 25, 2026. Born on January 9, 1930, Dot lived a full and meaningful life defined by faith, family, and joy in the simple things.
Dot was the daughter of Roy and Vernie Walker Bridges. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 25 years, Glenn York, her beloved siblings Polly McGinnis, Woodrow Bridges, Clark Bridges, and her twin sister, Dora Arledge and 1 grandson, Christopher Blackwell.
She carried the values of her family with her throughout her life, always showing the love of Christ, kindness, strength, and a generous spirit.
Dot was the devoted mother of two daughters, Linda York Holbert (Bob) and Dale York Edwards (Danny). Her legacy continues through her growing family, including four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.
In addition to her family, Dot shared a special bond with her four legged best friend, Lexi, whose companionship brought her peace and happiness over the years.
Dot dedicated 28 years of her life to working at Tanner/Doncaster. A faithful woman, Dot was a lifelong member of Green Creek First Baptist Church, where she was a devoted prayer warrior, choir member, Billy Graham tele-minister and an active part of her church family. Her faith guided her life and was evident in the way she loved, lived and cared for others.
Dot found joy in music and loved to stay active. She played softball well into her later years, enjoyed clogging, and embraced life with energy and enthusiasm that inspired those around her.
She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, and as a woman who lived her life with faith, grace, compassion, and a heart full of love. To know Dot, was to love her, to be known by her, was to be loved deeply and prayed for daily. Dot was truly an incredible person and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00p.m., Monday, March 30, 2026, at Green Creek First Baptist Church with Rev. Brinton Easley and Rev. Steve Price officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Carnation Foundation of Hospice at www.CarnationFoundation.org , Gideon's International, or the Polk County Schools Child Nutrition Fund in Dorothy's memory.
