Doris B. Wilson, 86, of Campobello passed away on June 17, 2024. She was born October 15, 1937 in the North Pacolet Community the daughter of the late Marion M. and Mazie Hutchins Blackwell. She married Larry L. Wilson May 4, 1957.
She attended North Pacolet and New Prospect Elementary Schools. She graduated from Chapman High School in Inman in 1955. She was employed at First Federal Savings and Loan in Panama City, FL until June 1956. After moving back to South Carolina, she was employed at First Federal Savings & Loan in Spartanburg for 19 years retiring in 1977. She received the Graduate Diploma from the Institute of Financial Education of Chicago, IL. Doris was the first female officer at First Federal Savings & Loan Association of Spartanburg, SC. She was also the first woman in South Carolina to receive the Merit Award for participation in the Greenville, SC Chapter of the American Savings and Loan Institute. She was employed by the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier for 14 1/2 years and retired in June 2003.
Doris was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church for 67 years where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Larry Wilson and a son Larry "Marc" Wilson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by sisters Helen Blackwell Burrell, Mildred Blackwell Skinner; and a brother Marion Glenn Blackwell. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm Friday, June 21, 2024 at New Prospect Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at the church at 2:00pm conducted by Dr. Ron Gaddy and Rev. Everette Chapman. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
