Donald Williams Obituary

Donald "Don" Eugene Williams, 76, of Rutherfordton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.  

Born in Spartanburg County on January 11, 1947, he was the son of the late Charles Adrian Williams and Margaret Towery Williams.  He was a former member of Piedmont Baptist Church, Chesnee, SC.

Upon graduating from Chesnee High School in 1965, Don enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.  Don served several tours of duty in Vietnam where he was wounded in action and received two purple hearts.  He served as a drill instructor at Parris Island, SC.   Don was a decorated Marine who served several classified duties overseas.  Upon his retirement from the Marine Corps, Don joined the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office where he retired after 17 years of service and was named "Deputy of the Year" (Detective).

Don was the current owner and operator of the Hay Rack in Landrum, SC and #9 in Green Creek, NC.    He was a hardworking Cowboy who loved to rodeo.  He enjoyed riding and roping, managing the Hay Rack, and serving his friends and customers.

Surviving are a daughter, Michelle Grigg (Stephen) of Inman, SC; a son Andy Williams (Vicki) of Chesnee; grandchildren Colby Grigg (Caitlyn), Jacob Grigg (Katie), Lauren Cornelius (Austin), Thomas Grigg, Caroline Grigg and Drew Williams; two great grandchildren Lucy and Jameson Grigg; two brothers Mike Williams (Harriett) of Chesnee, Eddie Williams (Peggy) of Boiling Springs; two sisters Judy Clary (Mike) of Gaffney and Wanda Metz of Chesnee; and his girlfriend Connie Downs;  He was predeceased by a sister Sheila Wood.

Services will be private.
