Charles Gilbert Maxfield, 84, of Greenville, formerly of Wakefield, MA and Landrum, SC passed away on April 27, 2024. He is the husband of Judith Redfern Maxfield and the son of the late Charles Frederick and Sarah Lavinia Maxfield.
When not putting his family ahead of his own needs, Charlie excelled in his career as an executive for IBM in the role of Director of Equity Investments. In retirement, he became an interior firefighter and served as a volunteer at the Glassy Mountain Fire Department in Landrum SC. In his spare time, he loved the outdoors, and in particular nature photography, gardening and fly fishing with his children and grandchildren. Other interests included woodworking, collecting and reading books, and stock market research.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, David Maxfield and Peter Maxfield (Courtney); his daughters, Karen Kenney (Kevin) and Nancy Fell (William); step sons, Drew Shattuck (Lisa) and Scott Shattuck (Sara); step daughter, Jane Shattuck; grandchildren, John and Sarah Kenney, Matthew, Kyle, and Jacob Andrews, Olivia Mullins, Cameron and Keira Maxfield; six step grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Linda Lou Johnson Maxfield and a sister, Janet Hall.
The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 7:00PM Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Petty Funeral Home. A private service will held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
