Burgess Riley Solesbee, 81, of Landrum, SC passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 14, 2025. He was the husband of Judy Davis Atchison Solesbee and the son of the late Harley Burgess and Nellie Pritchard Solesbee.
Burgess was a graduate of Landrum High School. He worked with Northrop-Gruman Aerospace Corporation in Los Angeles, CA and Ford Credit Company in Greenville, SC. Retirement proved monotonous so most recently he could be found thoroughly enjoying himself and the customers while bagging groceries at Ingles.
He was an active member of Bible Baptist Church. He loved the Lord, his pastor and church family. Singing for the service on Wednesday nights was a privilege that came from his heart.
He was an avid golfer and loyal Gamecock enthusiast. To know Burgess was to have a friend for life. His contagious smile, infectious laugh, and kind, sweet spirit endeared him to all that were privileged to know him, and this is how he will be remembered and cherished.
In addition to his wife, Judy, he is survived by his brother, Randy Solesbee (Gail) of Boiling Spring, SC; his sisters, Juanita Hamilton of Mill Spring, NC and Barbara Siegfried of Landrum, SC; his step-sons, Glenn Atchison ( Claire) of Pensacola, FL and Jeffery Atchison of Mill Spring, NC; his aunts, Inez Golden of Moore, SC and Irene Settle of Landrum, SC; as well as three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Jeanette Wofford; his niece, Patricia Hamilton; and his great-niece, Allie Silver.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM Thursday, September 18,2025 at Bible Baptist Church in Landrum. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM at the church with Dr. Tommy Turner and Dr. Tim Wofford officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Church, 330 W. Finger Street, Landrum, SC 29356 or Agape Hospice of SC.
