Betty Howard Lindsay

Betty Ruth Barton Howard Lindsay (Bette) died on July 1, 2022 in Greenville, SC.  She was the daughter of the late Theron Earle and Ruth Elizabeth Smith Barton.  She was born in Greer, South Carolina on September 5, 1933.

Surviving are her husband Dr. Joseph Lindsay; daughter Andrea Lee Howard Horosko (Col. Steve); son Alan Barton Howard (Lee Shaw); grandson Stanley Howard Horosko (Erin Koenig); granddaughter Caroline Lee Horosko (Pierson Moses); great-granddaughter Aurora Sky Horosko; brother James Earle Barton; beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her first husband of forty-five years, Professor Andrew Swofford Howard; and second husband Carroll Milton Pitman.

Bette was a 1951 graduate of Taylors High School, and received degrees from Winthrop College, Converse College and The University of Georgia.  She taught biology at Spartanburg High School and other schools in the Spartanburg area.  

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at the Petty Funeral Home Chapel, Landrum, SC.
