Barbara Case Waters, 80, known as “Bobbie” by her family and friends, formerly of Landrum, SC, died July 12, 2023 after a period of declining health.
Barbara was born September 23, 1942 in Asheville, NC and was the daughter of the late Ralph Leroy Case and Betty Wilde Foy. Her paternal grandparents were James Franklin Case and Grace Edmundson Case. Her maternal grandparents were Fred Roberts Wilde and Neta Hensley Wilde. She was predeceased by her stepfather, John Foy, and a brother, Denton Foy.
Barbara spent her youth in Brevard, NC, forming strong bonds with her Baynard and Smith cousins. Her family moved to Columbus, NC in 1951 and her immediate family eventually made Landrum, SC their permanent home. She was a 1960 graduate of Landrum High School.
In the late 1960’s, Barbara was a model for Butte Knit – a perfect size 8. Needing to provide more for her children and being a single mother, she enrolled in Spartanburg Technical College and became a surgical technician and joined the surgery department at St. Luke’s Hospital in 1977. The next step in her healthcare career was when she became a registered nurse at age 48, working the 7p to 7a weekend shift in the intensive care unit. In total, her career at St. Luke’s Hospital was 30 years.
She is survived by her three children, Mitchell Waters (Claudia), Wendi Walters, and Darrin Waters; a sister Sharon Case Randall (Mark) and brother Joe Foy; three grandchildren Kiowa Waters, Cree Waters, and Logan Walters, and son-in-law Tommy Walters. Also surviving are nephews Josh Randall (Kacey) and Nathan Randall (Jessie), and nieces Joanna Guzman and Jessica Foy Fromme (Chris). She also had close relationships with her cousins Sandra Smith Muse (Charles) and their sons Tim Muse (Lori) and Brad Muse (Tina), Sylvia Smith Menard and her son John, Sara Smith Horton (Dennis), Languin Baynard, Michael Baynard (Mary), Randall Baynard (Angela), and Gary Baynard.
Barbara was known for her sense of humor and she was a treasured guest at family gatherings. She recounted childhood stories with great detail and knew how to keep her audience alert. Barbara was known for her love of God, good food and Elvis. She will be remembered with love.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Petty Funeral Home, 124 North Trade Avenue, Landrum, SC 29356. A Memorial Service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Garold Thomas officiating. The burial will be private.
