Barbara Burrell

Barbara Avis Burrell, 92, of Tryon, NC, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at White Oak Manor of Tryon. 

Born in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Elsie May Howard Champion. Barbara enjoyed crafts, reading, crossword puzzles, word searches, and listening to the radio. She was a homemaker and a member of Peniel Baptist Church. 

Surviving are two sons, Joel Burrell (Lou) and Johnny Burrell (Carole); four grandchildren, Jessica Sutton, Carolynn Duncan, Eli Burrell, and Garrett Burrell; two great-grandchildren, Caleb Sutton and Christian Duncan. Also surviving are two step-grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by siblings, Lindsey Palmer Champion, George B. Champion, Vadah Champion Pettit, and Martha Champion Lawrence. 

A graveside service will be held at 2:00p.m., Sunday, November 23, 2025 at Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Steve Price officiating.
