Arthur F. "Art" Farwell III, 77, of Landrum, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018, due to complications of cancer therapy.
Born at Tripler Naval Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii, Art was the son of the late Captain Arthur F. Farwell, Jr. and the late Marlyn Shaw Farwell. He was the oldest child and is survived by all his siblings: Richard Farwell (Sybil), Marlyn Kenney (Casey), and Starr Laizure (David).
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Drewry, his daughters Lauralyn Farwell, Damara Farwell, and Kari Farwell Bracy (Gary); his grandsons Kai Merten, Sawyer Merten, Damian Bracy, and granddaughter Adelaide Bracy.
Art graduated from Purdue with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering, and from the University of Florida with an MBA, and a PhD in finance and econometrics. He put all his learning to work for such firms as Price Waterhouse before becoming an independent management consultant with clients all over the country. He was also a sailor, a racecar driver, a model railroader, a golfer, and a devoted husband, father and grandfather who believed in "family first."
A celebration of Art's life will be held in June for close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Nature Conservancy, ATTN: Treasury, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203.
