Allen Hugh Smith died on September 1, 2024, at his home in Taylors, South Carolina. He was born July 19, 1942, in Polk County, North Carolina, son of the late Ralph Jack Smith and Blanche Edwards Smith Conner.
He graduated from Green Creek High School and attended Kansas State University. After leaving his hometown; he lived in Manhattan, Kansas where he worked for Kansas State University and managed the Student Union; he lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and managed a Brunswick Bowling facility; he lived in Denver, Colorado and managed an apartment complex; and lived in Evanston, Wyoming and managed a large mobile home park, before he moved back to Greenville, SC near his hometown.
He retired from the Polk County North Carolina as a County maintenance supervisor, and he and his wife Nancy managed the Milford Manor Community and made many good friends over the years. He was a sports fanatic and especially loved baseball, football, golf, and bowling. He coached Little League baseball and college bowling teams, and was a faithful attendee of Double Springs Baptist Church, Taylors, SC.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years Nancy McMillan Smith, his son Timothy Smith and wife Phyllis, stepdaughters Kimberly McMillan and Renee Lynn and her husband Barry, stepmother Ursula Smith, brothers Dean Smith and his wife Linda, Ralph Smith and his wife Rachel, James Smith and his wife Holly, and sister-in-law Patricia Smith, step-grandchildren Angela Lynn Blackwell and her husband Matt, Taylor Hendrix Albert and her husband Alec, Su-lin Rojas and her husband Timothy, and step-great grandchildren Kinley Albert and Addison Albert. He was predeceased by brother Donald Smith and sister Peggy Wilson.
Visitation and service immediately following on Wednesday, September 4th, at 11am at Double Springs Baptist Church, 3800 Locust Hill Road, Taylors, SC 29687.
