For nine months John welcomed me to his family and treated me like one of his own children. John made these months very special to me, very important and pleasant. A time I like to jump back to in memories. I am very sorry that John is no longer with us. Love, Florian

On behalf of the Girl Scouts of the Piedmont Area Council, I express our sympathy to John's family. I only had the opportunity to interact with John by phone having moved to this council following his tenure on the board. However, I have heard of his involvement and I know he stayed abreast of our written correspondnece. I will certainly share this news with others that served with him.

I was very sorry to read of John's passing. I have lost contact with so many from back home and try to keep up thru the Spartanburg Herald via email. My sympathy to the entire family. I remember being in the band with John. He was always so helpful, friendly, and smart.

To John: Thank you for your warm, caring spirit and your unselfish love of this small town in the foothills of the mountains. Thank you for the love and friendship you showed our son, Richie. The trip you took him on to Norfolk was very special to him. We always appreciated it when you asked about "The Admiral" every time you saw us. He was promoted to Lt.(j.g.) just this past week.

To Cam and the family: Thank you for sharing a true gentleman with us. We know there were many nights that he could have been at home but he was reporting stories about common people in Landrum. We were always thrilled us to see our name in print. We were all truly blessed to have known John. May God bless his soul and give him rest.

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

Dear Liz,
Just got Lynn's email about your dear dad. You have been in my thoughts this year, and I miss you so much here at LMES.
I know you are at peace knowing that your dad is no longer suffering, but I know you will miss him so much. As time passes, those wonderful memories will become sweeter and sweeter. Take care of yourself and know that you are in my prayers.
With love,
Tricia
