Mrs. Golda Elizabeth Grogan McIntosh, 93, of Landrum, SC died April 12, 2018 at the Smith Phayer Hospice House. She was a member of Landrum First Baptist Church and the Esther Fidelis Sunday School Class.
Golda was born on November 20, 1924 in Todd, NC; a daughter of the late Millard and Mae Grogan. She was one of 5 children, two of whom preceded her in death, Virgie Teer of High Point, NC and Denver Grogan of Fleetwood, NC. After finishing secreterial college, Golda worked with the War Dept in High Point, NC in the late 40's. She was later transferred to Charlotte, NC where she met her husband of 52 years Tyree V. McInotsh who also preceded her in death.
She later worked at Wix in Gastonia before becoming a mother and homemaker.
Golda and Tyree moved to Landrum, SC in 1973 and bought the Western Auto Store which they operated for many years before retirement. Golda later worked as a Ward Clerk and CNA at St. Luke's Hospital as well as private duty. She also volunteered at Habitat for Humanity. She loved her family, playing bridge and gardening.
Surviving are two siblings Thelma Luther of Elkton, MD and Thomas Grogan and wife Lois of Granite Falls,NC. Also surviving are two daughters, Joyce Welborn and husband Bob of Trinity, NC and Libby Frohlich and husband Erich of Landrum; four grandchildren Rob Welborn of Trinity, NC, Scott and wife Kristin of Wellford, SC, Heather and husband Darren of Greer, SC, Ashley and husband Charles of Wilmington, NC; five great grandchildren, Sophia & Ty Vance, Indigo & Violet Kinney, Blakely Welborn as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am Monday, April16, 2018 at Petty Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00-11:00am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC at 2:30.
