Gene Earl Sims "Bossman", age 79, of Campobello, SC passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018 surrounded by his family. Gene was the loving husband of 61 years to Gayle Settle Sims and the son of the late John Earl and Virginia Mae Jackson Sims.
He served in the United States Army for six years and was stationed in Straubing, Germany. He was the co-owner of Boiling Spring Hardware and Discount Auto Supply and Boiling Springs Small Engine in Boiling Springs, SC for almost 30 years. Later in life, he was an owner of Woodfin Ridge Golf Course in Inman, SC. Gene spent his life enjoying his land and farming, playing baseball, softball, basketball, fishing golfing and spending time with his family. He was a dedicated member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church where he served many years as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
He is survived by his wife, Gayle, his son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Claudia Sims, his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Christopher Smith, four grandchildren, Abbey and Emily Sims, Matthew and Owen Smith, a brother, Larry Sims, and many other close family members and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Sims.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 9th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Petty Funeral Home, Landrum, SC. The funeral service will be held at Walnut Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00am by Rev. Scott Lewellen. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Walnut Hill Baptist Church, 675 Walnut Hill Baptist Church Road, Campobello, SC, 29322.
