Welcome to the memorial page for

Dewey Ray Turner

December 2, 2017

A lifelong member and supporter of the community, Dewey Ray Turner of 525 Ferree Road, Campobello, died Dec. 2 at age 89. Born to Lester and Nelle Turner, Ray is now reunited with them in rest, along with his deceased siblings Vivian Lanford, Wanda Elkins, and Edgar Turner. Anyone privileged to know Ray knew of his unreserved love and wholehearted commitment to his family. His love was and is returned in full with joy and sadness by those who survive him: his devoted wife of 70 years, Alice Smith Turner; his daughters-Donna Diaz (Larry) and Joan Bridges (Forrest); his 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren-Ray Bohon (Angie): Hunter, Colton, Evan, and Edyn; Heatherly Bridges McGarity (Cameron): Molly and Wyatt; Sommer Bridges Trebilco (Jonathan): Gabrielle; Autumn Bridges Lawson (Darrin): Garrison; Joseph Bohon (Shawn): Gracie, Ella, and Daniel; Dianna Diaz Garrett (Heath): Curtis, Charlie, and Elsie; and Angelina Diaz Rollins (Daniel): Kinsley and Abigail.

Ray served in the Korean War and upon his return, became a valued employee of Lowenstein Manufacturing of Lyman. A quiet man of faith whose Christian works spoke volumes, he was a member of Motlow Creek Baptist Church. Ray was indefatigable: he was an avid gardener, accomplished cook, and restorer of antiques in his spare time. He was loyal and caring: he spent his retirement years in constant service to sick neighbors and friends in need and in caring for his family-not one day went by that he did not spend time and help someone. His grandson Joseph described him as "plowing through the field of life meticulously, without ever cutting any corners. If our family will pick up the plow [he left behind], we will harvest for many more generations to come."

The family is thankful for the compassionate and loving care provided by both the employees of Maximus Skylyn and Regency Hospice of Spartanaburg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Regency Hospice. Condolences may be sent to 525 Ferree Road, Campobello, SC. A family Celebration of Life service is being planned for a later date.
