I love her books. The cats, Qwill, all of it. There are times I laugh out loud while reading and my own cats look at me like I’m crazy. What a great talent she was. I wish she had written more, but grateful she wrote as many as she did. Her dedication at the beginning of each book is just the sweetest. She must have been a wonderful lady. My condolences to the family. Certainly a great loss.

Since the first book given to me by my mother in law, I have endeavored to obtain all of the Cat Who books, including the short stories and parody by Robert Kaplow. I was speaking to the media specialist at our school (the new fancy name for librarian) and discovered she had never heard of the Cat Who. She does now and is finishing the series. Anything to keep the memory of a fantastic lady alive.

I read all of Ms Braun’s books over the years. Found the first one at the airport, when I forgot my reading material for the trip. I always pictures Tom Sellick as the famous Q. Every morning, I have breakfast with a woman whose late husband was my client. One of the many things we have in common, is the Cat Who books we both had treasured. Her clean writing and soft mysteries are lost to the writings and movies of today.
You are missed Lillian Jackson Braun Bettinger.

The Cat Who Lived High was my first book. I read it for my English class in Secretarial School (in Mexico). I came to live in USA and found all the books and loved each of one. I am a cat lover. Thank you for sharing Koko and Yum Yum with us and of course, the Wonderful Mr. Q!!! I am sure you are entertaining every single soul where you are.

I love the entire series. I read many of her books years ago and recently read the entire series. Seems to me changes have been made. I remember when he got Pollys letter and after road his bicycle downtown. The green eyed Dr was not killed off and he smiled at her as he rode. When were they changed and by whom?

My husband and I have read and re-read all 29 of Lilian’s Cat Who books repeatedly with much pleasure. During this shut-down we decided to read them in order again! They never lose their charm.

I was saddened to learn that she lived in Michigan much of her life and I never met her. My husband and I lived there during much of her life. What a missed opportunity! We see so much of Michigan in the books — Pickax, Moose County, and Brrr make us think of the Upper Peninsula. The big city reminds me of Detroit in the mid twentieth century.

Ms. Braun will never be forgotten. She left a delightful legacy for the future. God bless her family, publisher, and friends.

Lilian Jackson Braun has been one of my favorite authors for over 25 years. I've read and re-read her books numerous times and it always takes me to a happy place. I am not re-reading her books again about my favorite characters, Qwill, Koko and Yum-Yum. I started with the first in the series on my vacation to the Bahamas last May and have been consistently reading them in order. When I read her books it literally I feel as though I'm in the story. She was an incredibly talented author and she is missed every day. I hope the family takes comfort in knowing that her spirt will be kept alive forever as her fans continue to enjoy The Cat Who series.

Just wanted to send my condolences. I recently picked up one of her books at our library book sale and decided to Google her again. I had tried to find information on her before with no luck so she was always this big mystery to me. I'm saddened she has passed but her books gave me a lot of joy. I'm fascinated by what I've read here about her life. What a wonderful lady she must have been. My favorite of her books was The Cat Who Saw Red. It got me hooked and I read the whole series. My late husband enjoyed her books too. All the best to Mrs. Braun Bettinger's family.

I learned of the passing of this wonderful writer only recently. I started reading her books in the 70's and waited impatiently for more. As she started writing again, I was constantly looking in the book store for the newest chapter in the lives of Mr. Q, Koko & Yum Yum. I don't know what made me pick up a copy of book #22 and re read it earlier this year but I did. One of the reviews printed on the jacket went something like "every new boom in the series is like visiting old friends and catching up". I truly is. I went back to book #1 and have read every day since then. I am currently re reading The Cat Who Blew The Whistle. I have all but the first three books in hardback and still search for those to complete my collection. I started reading Ms. Braun's books because it am an avid cat lover and rescuer and her writing had me and still has me hooked. I want to move to Pickax in Moose County, 400 miles north of everywhere. From what I have read about Ms. Braun, she had a long wonderful life. I only hope I am as fortunate. I know it's very late, but to "The Husband Who" - you have my deepest sympathy. I will enjoy her writing for the rest of my life and I have my daughter's (ages 19 & 34) hooked as well! I hope the one day, I will have a complete collection of "The Cat Who..." In hardcover and my daughters will pass them along with their own memories of reading them onto their children.

I have read and reread the books written by this talented lady.  Family have given them to me for gifts.  I have an autographed one that I will always treasure.  When I read that Mrs. Bettinger stopped writing for awhile because mysteries were becoming full of sex and violence, I thought that this is the very reason I love them!  They are so well-written and done so tastefully.  My first encounter was with a book on tape that I listened to with my family (so family friendly) while we were traveling.  They have been my favorites ever since.  Strong coffee, cats, and a man who loves them.  There couldn't be a better combination.  She used many lovely words too, I love words.  Thank you and your wife over and over.  So sorry for your loss.

I've read most of Lilian's books starting about a year ago when I discovered The Cat Who Had 14 Tales. Now I'm down to the last 4 or 5 of her Cat Who... books. I truly enjoyed every one of them. I feel Quill, Koko, YumYum and the host of other characters Lilian brought to life in her books are a part of my life along with Pickaxe, Mooseville, and the other places in Moose County 400 miles north of everywhere. My vocabulary has also been expanded exponentially. She certainly had a world of words and worlds to share with us. Bon voyage to you Lilian from me and my cats! the Lord be with you! Earl best wishes in your life!

I came to the library to get a complete bibliography of Ms. Braun's "Cat Who..." books for my mother and found that she has passed away.  I wasn't sure if I should write this, but I wanted express my condolences.  My mother has loved the "Cat" books and over the years and when I needed to think of a gift I knew she'd appreciate I'd frequently get her one of Ms. Braun's books.  It became harder and harder to find one that wasn't a familiar title after a few years and looking sort of- slipped away.

A few months before Christmas  I was in the excellent little resale shop at the Lucas Co. Public Library and found many (I think about twelve but honestly can't remember,) copies of her books on tape.  I bought them all and took them home to my mother.  It took her a while to listen to them.  she started to complain about trouble getting to sleep at night and I found out that she had found my father's old cassette player and began listening to each book.  She'd listen to them gradually at night before she dropped of to sleep with our Chihuahua Chiquita curled up in her bed next to her (we're dog-people.)  She complained much less about insomnia but started frequently asking me to see if there were any books published that she hadn't read.  I don't have inter-net and loathe smart phones so here I am to print out a Wikipedia entry and discover that Lilian Jackson Braun has passed away.  Her work brought much comfort to my Mom and on behalf of my mom Dorothy, myself (and Chiquita, Chi-Chi, and Puck,) I just wanted to say that she is missed.

Though a bit late, I wanted to celebrate the life of Lilian. She was the best writer I've ever followed! She knew how to create the most amazing, addictive mysteries, without all the sex, violence and smut you find in today's books. It just goes to show you don't need all that to create a great read! Authors take note: You can create addictive books without all the that - it just takes a good mind and creativity. I will miss her so much and will read and re-read every book she wrote until they fall apart. God bless.

I am so sorry I didn't know of Mrs. Braun's passing until I was redoing my facebook page and listing the books I had read. I realized I had read all of The Cat Who..... and started researching. I know she passed at 97 2 years ago and so did my mother at 97 and 2 years ago. Ms. Braun's books gave me so much joy and sometimes inspiration. I named my son Qwilleran Mackenzie in 2001 and wrote a letter to Lillian telling her about it and hoped she didn't think I was a weirdo for naming my son after her character. She wrote me assuring me she didn't think I was weird and said she was thrilled. My son has been living up to his name. I know Lillian is in a good place now. I am so glad she had a husband she lover enough to dedicate each of her books. Take Care and know.

I wish there were more to read...having re-read many multiple times...I do long always for "the next new book" to come out. Now there will be no  more...makes me sad. Lilian brought my life such joy through her stories. While I never knew her personally, I would like to extend my condolences to her family and loved ones. I too will miss her greatly. :(

Having only discovered Lillian's Cat Who.... books in the past two years, I was devastated to hear that there will be no more.  I'm still searching and collecting her books through the Internet and they will be kept, treasured, read and re-read many times and I will encourage my grandchildren to read them.  As soon as another book arrives in the post I drop everything, make a cuppa and sit down and read it from cover to cover.  One arrived this morning and I've just finished reading it.  Thank you Lillian for introducing me to Koko, Yum Yum and Quill and all in Moose County.  My condolences to Earl - The Husband Who..... and to all Lillian's fans throughout the world.  She has left a wonderful legacy behind.

My deepest sympathies for your loss.  Lilian is an inspiration to me, not only because I LOVE her books and find comfort in reading them after slogging through long days at work but because of her success after "retirement".  After having enjoyed reading the novels over and over again, I began to explore about the author and was thrilled to learn how these books came into being.  I''m inspired again in just learning "the Depression Era put a college education out of reach".  Now in my 40''s and wondering if it''s too late to pursue this or that dream, not having completed my college education - Lilian''s life offers a solid point of reference and every time I pick up one of her novels for enjoyment, it''s also a subtle reminder to go ahead and shake the dust off some of those plans that got set aside in my younger days.  One more thing, I''m eternally thankful that Lilian didn''t bend to the trends of society when she returned to the series.  Prayers to you and your family for the loss of such a wonderful person.

I was saddened to read of Koko & YumYum''s ''mom''s'' passing.  I started reading "The Cat Who" books just a couple of years ago and when I found out for a curling co-hort that there was actually a series, I was thrilled.  Non more-so then when this same person gave me the series almost in it''s entirety that had belonged to her mom.  I started back at the beginning and even re-read the books that I read out of sequence, because I was now following the series.  I''m just two short and after 14 months, I continue the hunt.  I have to say that the one thing that has bothered me since reading the last book, is that the lovely barn was destroyed in a fire and Polly staying in Europe, and I hope that someone could ''retool'' a follow-up novel to say it was a nightmarish dream, that Qwill woke up in a sweat and everything was as it had been when he went to sleep the night before.....Polly at her place, Moose County enjoying, as best as can be expected, the summer tourist and KoKo and YumYum sleeping outside his bedroom door.  From the mom of Scruffy, Bumper and Tiger, REST IN PEACE LILLIAN and, deepest sympathy to you Earl, ''The Husband Who....''

Since then I have read any and all I  could get my hands on.  Lillian had a real gift for making her characters come alive on the pages. Lillian and her characters will remain forever alive in hearts as long as her work endures.

The Detroit News was a part of our daily lives growing up and so was she. She wrote so many articles for the Life section, her name was a staple in the state. I had no idea when I picked up my first ''cat who'' about 10 years ago that we had a Michigan connection.  Moving to South Carolina 3 years ago, I realized that you and your wife had moved to warmer weather also, but the snow and change of seasons always remains in ones heart.

Mr. Bettinger and Ms. Braun''s family:

You have the deepest sympathies of my family in this time of your loss. Ms. Braun''s books were a great favorite of mine - who can love cats without loving the immortal and completely unusual Kao'' Ko Kung? Ko-Ko and Yum Yum were "our" cats and through them, we grew to love all of the characters of Moose County. Thank you. Thank you for loving and supporting this wonderful woman whose life enriched the world. I pray you can be comforted in this time of loss by knowing how much she was loved on this Earth.

Goodbye, Qwill. Goodbye, Polly. Goodbye, Ko-Ko and Yum-Yum. Goodbye Ms. Braun who brought them so beautifully to life.

With God''s blessings on you and yours,

Cassie Perry, Jackson, GA

I never met Ms. Braun, but I loved her books and am glad she stayed away from violence and gore.  That is what made her stories so special.  I feel like I knew her, and would have wanted to be friends with her.  Thank you for sharing this page so that I could tell you what a wonderful writer I thought she was, and I believe a wonderful person.  My sympathy is with you now in your loss.

Sending profound gratitude for all that Ms. Braun gave to the world. Her writings are a gift -- wonderfully witty, just so smart and uplifting. I appreciate the world she created with Qwill, Koko, Yum Yum and friends. I will miss them all. May good memories keep her close to you. I think of her and must smile.

Ms. Braun''s passing leaves a hole in my heart. As a native of Michigan''s Detroit area and lover of cats and mysteries, I was drawn to her books in the late 70''s. However her incredible talent inspired me to pursue a writing career and achieve my own dream of publishing a novel. I now appreciate the pleasure she enjoyed by putting her heart into her beloved stories and entertaining readers around the world. My sincerest appreciation goes to her for providing me with wonderful, memorable years spent with Qwill, Koko and Yum Yum. I will never look at a Siamese cat or a man with a big moustache without thinking of her. My heartfelt condolences to you, Mr. Bettinger, and your family.

As a fan of many years, the death of such a wonderful writer saddens me, more so because of the date.

To the family I would say that after 33 years, you know her so well and loved her so much that she will always be with you. Right, now she is with Koko and Yum Yum over the Rainbow Bridge and they are loving having her with them again.

Please accept my condolences in the spirit in which they are meant and know that LJB will live on through her books.

Moose County may be anywhere but Pickax was in the Thumb of Mi.  I am from Bad Axe and my mother was a casual friend of Ms. Braun''s.  I will never forget my mom asking Ms. Braun for an autograph for me, as we both loved her books.  Ms. Braun came to our home and autographed several books for me.  To my delight, the autograph included a stamp from Koko, my favorite character.  Ms. Braun was so kind and gracious and I bragged for years about the best-selling author who came to our home.  I''ll never forget her kindness to me, and I still have all the books.  I was very sad to discover she is gone but I am grateful for the chance I had to meet her and grateful for the delight her books brought to me and my mother.

I was saddened to just learn of Ms. Braun''s passing.  I had a brief correspondence with her in the 90''s and still have the letters.  I hold them dear to my heart.

When I wrote her publisher making a request of Ms. Braun, I was shocked that I got a direct response from her.  It says a lot about her character to take the time to respond to my request, grant the request and then to go even further than I imagined.

I moved from Michigan to Hendersonville about 6 years ago and remembered that Ms. Braun lived in Tryon.  I wanted so much to contact her, but did not want to intrude upon her personal space.

It was very evident that she loved her husband dearly and I give him my condolences.  May God hold you in his hand during this time and ease your pain as time goes by.
