Jack Augusta Childers, 91, of Landrum passed away on the morning of Thursday, October 27, 2016, at the Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills surrounded by family. Jack was the son of Logan and Savana Smith Childers.He enlisted in the military at the age of sixteen for a thirty year military career. As a navy Engineman he participated in the World War II, Korea War and the Vietnam War. He was awarded six distinguished medals such as the American Defense medal, Navy Occuption Service medal, and the World War II Victory Medal during his esteemed service to our country. After retiring from the Navy, Jack also retired from the Bigelow-Sanford Landrum. Jack's love for fishing, baseball and Landrum Athletics was only exceeded by the love for his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Landrum where at the age of 76 he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized.
Jack joins his wife, Mildred, of 56 years whom he lovingly cared for during her final years battling Alzheimers. He is survived by four daughters, Sharon (Alan) Sistare of Lyman, Sandy (Randy) Caldwell of Inman, Sheila (Stephen) Walker of Landrum, and Sonya (Billy) Owensby of Landrum. His Grandchildren are Megan (Jason) Miller , Terri (Tyler) White , Jeremy (Jennifer) Condrey , Adam Walker, Chad Condrey, Christian Walker and April (Jimmy) Hensley. His Great Grandchildren are Mollie, Caleb and Abbey Miller, Cora White and Samantha Condrey,
Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00pm Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Petty Funeral Home. Service to follow at 3:00pm with Rev. Jason Miller, Rev. Steve Durham and Rev. Mark Bishop officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
